J.Crew was not the only new store opening at Yorkdale in August. One of the others is a flagship for premium denim brand, 7 For All Mankind. Though they opened their doors to the public around the same time as J.Crew, they did not have an official launch party until yesterday. The August 31st event featured not only staple party goodies such as hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, good music and a silent auction, but also creations from seven local artists such as Phoebe Lo, Caitlin Cronenberg (we first spoke with her when we were known as Prospere Magazine) and Julie Moon. The event was hosted by Canadian model Yasmin Warsame and part of the evening’s proceeds along with all of the proceeds from the silent auction will go to The African Future, a charitable organization delivering food and medical services to those affected by the Somali drought.
The party itself was busy. The store space was not very big, so it crowded up very quickly – especially towards the bar at the back. The appetizers, were, however, delicious. A favourite of mine was the puff pastry with figs and goat cheese. Macarons were passed around towards the end of the event.
In addition to nibblies and mingling, attendees also had a chance to try on and shop. However, it was very difficult to get oneself to the change rooms as they were near the bar. As a flagship store, there is a wide selection in sizes, including the petite Lexie cuts – good news for shorter ladies.
7 For All Mankind has been available in Toronto at other stores for many years, but this was the first time they opened a branded store in the city. There is one other Canadian location, which is in Calgary.
