A Quick and Beautiful Face for Mother’s Day Brunch with Products from Shoppers Drug Mart

You’ve made your reservations, picked out your outfit and think you’re all set on May 12 for a Mother’s Day brunch at a beautiful venue downtown. But wait, the night before, you were out celebrating with your best friend, who had just been promoted. You don’t get home until the wee hours of the morning, and the next day, you wake up, get into the shower, and when you finish blow drying your hair, you realize that you have to be out the door in ten minutes if you don’t want to keep Mom waiting. You know how she is with lateness. Luckily, Shoppers Drug Mart carries a many amazing cosmetics to make everything quick and easy. In fact, you can stock up on these products during their promotion between May 4 and May 10 where you can get 20 times the Optimum Points when you spend $75 or more on beauty products and fragrances.

With just four or five items, you can have a gorgeous face and out the door in a matter of minutes. Here are my favourites:

Face:

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream: BB Creams arrived in North America in late 2011 to much fanfare. Acting as a sunscreen (in this case, an SPF of 35), primer as well as a tinted moisturizer, it really can lift a tired face. I’ve tried many other brands, but Camera Ready BB Cream, by far, works best for me. It doesn’t give off a grey-ish tone that other lines often do.

Cheeks and Lips:

Stila Convertible Lip & Cheek Color: Available in four shades, this product acts as both blush and lip colour. Just dab some on your cheeks and lips and you’re good to go (keep the compact in your purse for touch-ups, too). However, if you’re looking for a separate lip colour, Stila recently relaunched lipsticks after a few years of absence. Called Color Balm Stick, these traditional looking lipsticks give your lips not only moisture, but also a colourful, satiny shine. Shades range from pale pinks to deep reds with brown undertones and everything in between, including bright shades.

Eyes:

Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes: Stick eye shadows are making a comeback. I remember using eye shadow like this back in the early 2000s! Just one swoop on the lids and you’ve created gorgeous eyes! For better looking eyes, use two colours. And unlike the shadow sticks from more than a decade ago, Clinique’s Chubby Stick Shadow Tints do not require sharpening as users can push colour out by turning the back of the stick. Best of all, no need to use brushes!

From the author’s personal collection: They’re Real Mascara by Benefit (far left), Clinique’s Chubby Stick Eye Shadow (top and bottom, middle), Stila’s Color Balm Stick (second, middle) and Convertible Lip and Cheek Color (third item in the middle, also from Stila) and Camera Ready BB Cream from Smashbox

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: Available only in black, this mascara definitely gives the skimpiest of lashes some volume and thickness (like yours truly). The bristles on the wand are fairly skinny, so it can really get between the lashes, giving a more through application.

Now that your hair is neat and your face is beautiful, you’re ready to enjoy a delicious brunch with your mom. Bon appétit!

And don’t forget that this promotion is only from May 4 to May 10. Why not get Mom or a mom you know a gift while you’re stocking up for yourself? Fragrances as well as gift sets such as Lise Watier’s “Gotta Have It” kit ($54) are also available.

Please note that not all Shoppers Drug Mart stores carry every product noted above.
