Anna Sui‘s Fall/Winter 2011 collection says several things, including Woodstock Chic and shimerly shine. From hippie-inspired tunics, peasant blouses, eastern-inspired tops and wide-legged pants modelled by girls with very long, straight hair to dresses with shiny fabric, there were also pops of old world glamour with light, creamy furs. Of course, the bohemian look is not unfamilliar to this designer, but it seems to be amplified for the upcoming season. The glittery, shinier pieces were definitely reflective of the ongoing trends seen in other shows this week.
The colour green is very much part of the collection. In fact, it was THE COLOUR for nearly half the looks, if not more. This was actually very interesting as green, with the exception of olive tons, was not commonly seen at many other shows. Other colours seen in the show include dark blues as well as some pops of deep reds and mauves. Of course, the collection was not devoid of black, seen in many of the shinier looks.
Many of the pieces in this collection are very wearable by many different body types, though we are not fans dresses belted at the hip – not a good look for anyone. A favourite of ours included a patterned, tea-length dress with a long front slit. Also of note were the cute furry cat hats, though out of place, were very much part of Anna Sui’s philosophy of free spirit, non-conformity.
