L-R: Spring/Summer collections from Joeffer Coac, Dmitri-Chris and NADA
Toronto’s Fashion Elite braved the cold (this event was the polar opposite of the lingerie show our previous incarnation, Prospere Magazine, covered back in the summer) Thursday night at The Art of Progression, where three Canadian designers presented their Spring/Summer 2011 collections at Brickworks on Bayview Avenue, near the DVP. The show featured Joeffer Coac, Dmitri Chris and NADA in what turned out to be an extremely cold venue. Each of the collections started with a short film, followed by one of the three Audis (the title sponsor of the event) driving down the runway. First up was Joeffer Coac. The collection featured many pinks, blues and light greys – perfect for warmer weather – as well as whites and summer darks. Of note is the long, flowy belt worn with one of the grey outfits. Another favourite is a Betty Draper-esque striped shirt and skirt.
The Dmitri Chris collection was, well, let’s just say, very different from Fall/Winter 2010. While the current season had sort of a Darcy Comes To the 21st Century vibe, Spring/Summer 2011’s theme seemed to be The Pyjama Game Falls Into a Punch Bowl. Not only were stripes everwhere, but the colours seemed to be in the pale purples and pinks. Not the typical choice for a men’s line. One interesting item to note was the coodie – a cape with a hood at the back.
The grand finale was NADA. With nearly 30 ensembles in all, the collection, which has both pieces that are more on the casual side as well as semi-formal to formal pieces, definitely contains something that will make a woman’s wardrobe next spring. Included in the collection are many vibrant colours as well as prints. Favourites here include a blue gown with draping as well as a print dress. One thing to note was the fact that NADA was not only the only designer to include information about each ensemble, but also to have branding present throughout the show. Kudos to her for not confusing people who were tweeting the shows.
