Recently, I asked readers on Facebook what they’d like to see more of on this site.  Possible answers included the usual fashion, dining and travel…as well as “arts and culture,” which encompasses theatre, classical music, dance and so forth.  As many online “style” publications, ones that seem to get the most press (in my world, at least) focuses on personal style (and maybe a bit on food and travel), I’ve always wanted to be a bit different, offering more insight into other topics – especially as I am going further into my 30s.  Arts and culture is one of them.  So when Independent Fashion Bloggers posted challenge #101, which asks members to write about a brand [one] want[s] to work with, I gladly participated (though originally, I was going to write about my desire to collaborate with Stuart Weitzman, my favourite (and small-foot-friendly) shoe line).

The Canadian Opera Company will open the season with La Bohême in October, 2013.

My answer is going likely very different from other participants.  As I’d like to see more variety on my site, I’ve decided to include several posts relating to opera once Canadian Opera Company (COC) opens their 2013-2014 season later this year (we already have some coverage on the National Ballet).  Posts will not necessarily be reviews – as DelectablyChic! has a style component, I will likely write about costumes.  I may write about the sets.   Interviews with singers, other musicians, directors and other people involved could also be a possibility.  As I was a history major when I was an undergrad, I might write about the historical significance of the plot – and how it relates to modern society (La Bohême is good for that.  There’s a reason why Jonathan Larson wrote Rent).  Of course, I will have to cover Operanation, the COC’s annual fundraising gala.  DelectablyChic! has been covering this event for a while (since 2008, if you include coverage in our predecessor, Prospere Magazine).

So what are my next steps?  Definitely contacting the COC to see if arrangements can be made for interviews.  As we increase the number of posts relating to opera (and other arts/culture-related organizations), hopefully this would lead to other opportunities, both opera/music-related as well as dance, theatre and of course, fashion and dining (the Canadian Opera Company’s home is on Queen and University – close to the Shangri-La Hotel (home of Momofuku), the TIFF Bell Lightbox (LUMA and O&B Canteen) and of course, “restaurant row” just a few blocks south, in the theatre district.

NOTE: We are still going to post about fashion!  This is NOT something that we will cut just because I’m “older.”  World MasterCard (Toronto) Fashion Week, the shOws, TFI New Labels, season previews, etc… are on our books as well as other fashion opportunities that may come up (yes, including the possibility of working with Stuart Weitzman).
