With drapey, shiney pieces, Badgley Mischka’s Fall/Winter 2011 sparkled down the runway. Lady-like and sophisticated in both evening gowns and daywear, every piece looked like it could have been from a different era, yet modern at the same time. Colours, though predominantly black, had pops of pink, teal as well as pale mauve.
The theme for the season is sparkle and shine, which gives all the darker pieces a bit of a kick, while keeping everything sophisticated. Badgely Mischka really understand elegance In addition, there was a great deal of detailing on many of the dresses, ranging from fringes to draping and gorgeous floral designs. They also seem to be sticking with the trends for Fall/Winter, with longer, lady-like hemlines that fall below the knees. Long, translucent sleeves, whicih were spotted on other shows, was also seen today. Lady-like opera gloves, which were seen paired with long, flowing evening gowns were also seen along with black birdcage veils. There is also an emphasis on shape. Whether it be evening, cocktail or day, a more hourglass shape is emphasized many with belting at the natural waist. Even pieces without belts show off feminine curves.
Of course, while most pieces looked amazing on the runway, there are many which won’t work well for non-model women. For those of us who are on the small side, some of the detailing would just be too overwhelming for shorter, smaller bodies. However, as this collection did have quite a items which are quite delicate looking, which would work extremely well.
