Basic Summer Outfits: Dresses and Lightweight Jeans

With the temperatures well into the mid-20s Celsius, it’s time to turn over to a permanent summer wardrobe – something that I will be wearing for the next few months.  Because it can get quite humid in Toronto in the warmer months, I tend to wear very casual dresses or skirts over pants – though very lightweight pants work as well.  Typically, I’d pair it with wedge sandals or heels and a cardigan (for indoor, air conditioned wear), since most of the tops are either short sleeved or straps.

When it comes to casual dresses, I’d say that a good number of them are BCBGMaxAzria jersey dresses, many dating back to 2003 or 2004 (the black and pink dress above).  However, I haven’t bought one as of yet this year, since there’s basically nothing this season – BCBGMaxAzria, has, over the past few seasons done away with this and is slowly morphing into Hervé Léger LITE.  This is, of course, a whole other post

With tops and pants, I tend not to wear very short shorts.  I’m a little bit conservative when it comes to showing my legs.  Besides, I’m already in my 30s.  Am I really supposed to wear anything more than two inches above my knee?  I did recently break the rule by buying a pair of elephant shorts from the Milly for Banana Republic collection (not pictured).  I will, however NOT pair anything that short with higher heels.  Flats or one inch heels are the way to go.  With pants, I will more likely wear very light weight jeans (such as the chambray Allison Izu (a denim line for women 5’6″ or shorter) jeans above), since denim is typically too heavy for Toronto summers.

What about you?  What’s your “go to” summer ensemble?
