Designing siblings Chloé and Parris Gordon have been gracing the tents of World MasterCard Fashion Week/LG Fashion Week for several seasons with their line, Chloé comme parris has rebranded. Their new line, called Beaufille (“handsome girl”) launched at World MasterCard Fashion Week yesterday, opening the Spring/Summer 2014 shows. The press release said that the upcoming collection had a mobster focus, but to me, it was a mix of rockers with their distressed skinny pants and a bit of boho, with the loose, flowing pieces. Live music played as the models walked down the runway.
Though there were hints of blue, the collection as a whole, was very strong in blacks, tans, white, off and near-whites. While this would often be criticized, considering that it’s a spring/summer collection, the boho rocker chick style would not really work if the collection had been to colourful. Is a rocker chick still a rocker chick if she wore bright skinnies with side detailing? Probably not (though it would be a bit different).
Final walk
Fit-wise, most of the looks were size-friendly to many body types, not just models. As I have said show after show, fit is very important. There are many ready-to-wear designers who “think” they’re “couture” and therefore create looks that just won’t work on anyone who isn’t over 5’8″ tall and THIN. The Gordon sisters, however, know who their clientele are and design to that, and therefore, create looks that would work on many different figures. I applaud them for doing so.
Favourite pieces? Definitely those detailed skinnies!
