The beauty event, Powder Puff, was held at Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street store in Toronto Tuesday evening. Featuring special guest, Emily Weiss from Into the Gloss, the online beauty publication, who had a brief interview with Lisa Tant (VP, Fashion Editor at Holt Renfrew), the event was very much make-up and beauty centric. Make-overs, manicures and of course, the requisite dress-up photo booth were all there as well as hand massages, brush cleaning and, of course, shopping – all attendees received a discount on purchases over $75 – and delicious food. In addition to appetizers, Butter Avenue was there with their delicious macarons and David’s Tea offered samples.
One of the more interesting components of the event was the photo booth. This was not your typical stand and shoot or red carpet style booth. Instead, there was costume jewellery and props for participants, who posed on a set consisting of a vanity table and stool. Powder Puff was very well-attended. To the point that some counters had long wait times to be helped or to make purchases (it took about 15 minutes for someone to speak with me at Chanel and another five minutes for them to ring in my purchase), while others (such as Clinique) were relatively quiet. Perhaps it was just the location. Counters closer to the front of the store were definitely much busier! In this case, I think Holt Renfrew could have spread out their staff a bit more. However, I won’t fault them for not doing so. The event was still a great deal of fun and I’m sure all attendees had an enjoyable time!
