Where are you based? Ottawa, ON
Why did you start your site?
After moving to Ottawa in the middle of winter, I was looking for a creative outlet. I love fashion and fashion blogs, and I love to write, so I thought “why not”. I started blogging with no real expectations, but received a great response from fellow fashion- and petite-bloggers, so I kept going. Now, I’m addicted! I love that blogging pushes me to try new trends, and try outfits that I might never have otherwise. It’s a great motivator.
How long have you been blogging?
Since June 2011. After moving to Ottawa earlier this year, I was looking for a creative outlet and decided to blog about my journey as a 25-year-old petite, trying to figure out what was office appropriate and age appropriate dressing.
What kind of impact do you think bloggers have made in the style industries, if at all?
I think bloggers are having a very large impact on the fashion industry. Before, you had to wait for the runway collections to be featured in the pages of magazines like Vogue, which happened months later. Now, bloggers are posting photos of the runway shows before the models have cleared the runway.
Have you seen changes over the past few years?
Definitely – instant access to designers’ collections has made fashion more accessible to everyone. There is less elitism now than there was a decade ago; fashion is accessible to anyone who is interested and inspired by it.
Who influences you the most in style?
Right now, Kate Middleton – I love that her style is classic and feminine, but young. I also admire Rachel Bilson’s style; it doesn’t hurt that she’s also a petite!
What piece of clothing/beauty item can’t you live without?
A black pencil skirt.
Online shopping or brick-and-mortar stores?
It depends – I’ve been known to buy things online because I have to have them. But for the most part, I like being able to try the clothes on before I take them home.
If there’s one thing you can change about the “real” industry, what would it be?
Celebrity “designers”. I would like this fad to pass.
