Media and foodies were invited to a delicious event at Blowfish Restaurant and Sake Bar‘s second location on Bay Street last night to celebrate its first anniversary. Like the King and Bathurst restaurant which opened nine years ago, the location is a fusion of traditional and modern as well as east and west, with its decor by Johnson Chou, main menu by executive chef, G.Q. Pan and cocktails curated by mixologist, Nishan Nepulangoda. Since opening last year, Blowfish has definitely been making the area just north of the financial district a go-to destination for trendy dining.
Party attendees mingled in the space and sampled many of the delights from both their regular and seasonal menus including orange & black (salmon, mango, avacado, orange and black tabiko, yuzu drizzle), spicy tuna won crispy sushi rice (one of my favourites) and the tempura spicy eggplant gyoza (this is a seasonal item). There were also two dessert to try. Media were able to get into the space a little bit earlier to mingle and get pictures, but by 6:15, the space was packed, especially around the bar (making it a little difficult to get from one side of the restaurant to the other at times). In addition to the hors d’oeuvres, attendees were all offered champagne , mineral water (sparkling and still) as well as a delicious tarty cocktail.
The Bay Street location is open for lunch Monday to Friday (two seatings: one starting anytime between 11:30 and 1 pm and another between 1 and 2:30) and for dinner, Monday to Saturday (again, two seatings with the first between 5:30 and 7 and the second between 8 and 9:30). Reservations can be made by calling 416-860-0606 . In both cases, reservations are made for two and a half hours.
