Burgundy Wine Tasting at the Art Gallery of Ontario

With over 30 stalls from various wineries from Burgundy, France, the event space on the third floor of the Art Gallery of Ontario hosted a wine tasting event last week.  Known for its amazing grape varieties, the best-known wines of the region include both reds and whites – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, respectively, according to thewinedoctor.com.  At the event, attendees, which ranged from representatives of restaurants to press and collectors had a chance to taste various wines from the region.  In addition individual stalls dedicated to specific wineries, there were also two “Exhibitors’ Choice” tables which featured top reds and whites.

Reps were available at each table to answer questions about the wines.  Many were helpful in discussing what foods work best with each wines.  For example, at the Maison Chanson Pere & Fils table, we were told that the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux (2008) are best paired with seafoods of all kinds, while the Baune 1er Cru, Les Febes, Monopole (2007) is best with game.  Great to know for dinner parties. Personal favourites?  Hard to say.  I have to admit that this was only my second time at a wine tasting, and there were just so many to try.

Many of these wines are already available or will be available at the LCBO this year.  Prices range anywhere from the $20s up to the $80s or above.
