Opera Meets Idol at the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage

On November 26, 2013, the Canadian Opera Company has a new addition to its event family.  Centre Stage, a party held in conjunction with their Ensemble Studio competition and hosted by Rufus Wainright (a performer at the COC’s Operanation in 2011) will include a cocktail party in addition to performances of the nine finalists at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.  Chosen from a pool of 155, the nine singers will be performing arias for prizes ranging from $1,500 to $5,000, including one $1,500 prize winner, selected by the audience.  Finalists will also be selected to join the company’s Ensemble Studio, which will be announced at a later date.  Participants this year will include performers from across Canada such as Karine Boucher, a soprano from Québec City, Lara Secord-Haid (yes, that’s her name), from Winnipeg, also a soprano and Brockville native, Iain MacNeil, a bass-baritone.

In addition to the competition, the event will feature a pre-show cocktail party (and yes, DelectablyChic! will be Tweeting live from the event – look for food photos!) and and a VIP dinner afterwards.  Tickets are for the cocktail party and performance are $100 (available online).
