Cantine, a restaurant located at the Avenue Road and Davenport area, is an amazing place to grab some brunch on weekends before you hit Yorkville for some shopping.  The brunch menu has a host of different choices, including sweet and savoury crepes, fritattas and omelettes as well as waffles and French toast.  Egg dishes all come with home fries.  Meals are quite affordable, with most being under $12 (slightly less than some places just a short walk away in Yorkville proper).  In addition, the bread comes warm and toasted.

Highly recommended are the omelettes.  Not only are there several choices, but you can, at an additional cost, add more toppings.  Egg white only omelettes are also additional.  Don’t like omelettes, but still want the eggs?  Try Eggs Madeleine – poached eggs with spinach and smoked salmon.  Want the poached eggs and spinach, but hate the salmon?   There’s always the Florentine.  The savory crepes are not bad, either (though some may find that they over do the sauce).  Crepes, however, do not come with sides.  The brunch menu also offers some of the items found on their weekday lunch menu, such as sandwiches, burgers and salads.

The ambiance of the restaurant is while dark, quite relaxed.  If it’s warm and sunny, try to get a seat near front.  They sometimes open up the doors to give it an outdoor cafe feeling, and it’s great to see people go by while having an amazing meal.  The restaurant can get quite busy so try to go before 11:30.
