Specialty Size Brand Carolina Alvo Launches Kickstarter Today!

Last year, we profiled an online, petite-focused store called Gambita, which sold clothing that was suited for women 5’4″ and below.  The clothes on Gambita were from other brands which made shorter inseams and hemlines.  One year later, Gambita has rebranded.  It is now called Carolina Alvo (after the designer herself), and launches with its Kickstarter project today!  The collection differs from more mainstream petite lines not only because it is NOT connected with a mainstream brand, but also, as the video indicates, because all pieces are fitted on an actual petite sized model (of about 5’2″) rather than scaled down from a 5’8″ model.

The first collection consists of office/work-appropriate looks that will take a woman from desk to dinner.  Available in black and white for now, the five basic pieces are a blazer, blouse, pencil skirt, A-line dress (pictured below) and pants.  The beauty of the collection is that not only is it made for petite women, but is also available in two different sizes, one for women over 5′ tall and another for those 5′ and shorter (the designer is 4’9″).  This is different from the “typical” petite collection which tends to ignore those who are under five feet tall.  This means that fewer women will require alterations (if at all) because of extra length.

This project will run for one month, until August 29, 2014.  T-shirts and the above dress from the collection are both available for backers, depending on the amount people give.  Once the project is successful, backers will be asked to provide Carolina with size (sizes range from 0-14) and choose between the black or white dress.  Best of luck! 🙂
