It comes to no surprise that Carolina Herrera’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection cries out lady-like elegance, from formal evening gowns to shorter pieces that are more appropriate daytime. Unlike the more casual or younger looking lines, the pieces are more much more pleasing to the eye. This definitely tells us her experience – Ms. Herrera’s first collection debuted in 1981 – 30 years ago. In addition, having a more elegant client base means that pieces are more classic, timeless and more understated.
Colour-wise, the pieces range from a gorgeous mauve pencil dress with a belt (a favourite of DelectablyChic!) to some reds as well as an emphasis on blacks and greys. The sophisticated evening gowns ranged from standard blacks to purple and even tourquise (which will definitely brighten up the winter season). Perhaps the most interesting piece was a gown with a pink skirt, gauzy top and feathery detail on the sleeves. Models’ hair were all put up in lady-like buns to show off the necklines and shoulders, whether it be bare shoulders, draping or framing them with details or fur. Make-up wise, the look was very understated and natural.
