Casual Dresses and Skirts for Warm Weather Wear

I don’t know about you, but for me, warm weather usually means spending more time wearing casual dresses and skirts.  I have an obsession with BCBG’s jersey dresses – I have some that date back to 2003 or so – but of course, BCBG isn’t the only line I wear during the summer.  Here are a few more looks I think would be great, both day and night, to wear as things heat up:

Milly:

Milly at ShopStyle

This would be amazing with a cropped cardigan (preferably grapefruit, lime or white) and a pair of tan sandal wedges or flats to give it a more 21st century look than, say, Betty Draper Francis. $385 US.

This has to be one of my favourite dresses so far, visually speaking.  And since it’s a halter, the dress can easily be pulled up, without the need to hem (and therefore not changing the pattern’s proportions).  However, be warned about wardrobe malfunctions! $595 US

Anthropologie:

This one might look a bit plain at first glance, but with the right accessories (chunky necklace!) and shoes, it would dazzle at dinner. $148 US.

Isn’t this feather/plume skirt is adorable?  It also might work in a more casual office (where a print like this won’t look too “off”), especially paired with a blazer. $98 US

Nanette Lepore:

This one is more of an “admiring from the outside” than a wearable for many women.  As a maxi, alterations will be required for anyone under, say 5’7″ or 5’8″, but hemming will change the pattern.  Straps can be shortened, but it might displace the location of the belt, therefore changing the shape a bit. $478 US

White House Black Market and Oscar de la Renta:

Again, another work-appropriate skirt (pair it with a solid top!).  Too bad the store isn’t in Canada yet. It also seems to be inspired by an Oscar de la Renta skirt (see below). Major price difference though ($88 US vs. $2,790 US)

This Oscar de la Renta skirt is absolutely gorgeous, but absolutely out of most people’s price range.

BCBG:

This dress, especially belted, could work well for some at brunch or a casual dinner.  Definitely not an office dress, though.

This kind of dress is the “staple” I’m talking about earlier and may very well end up in my collection this summer.  I’d probably wear it with grey or nude sandals, but the green pumps are very complementary to the dress.
