Cate Blanchett’s ‘Flesh Tone’ Dress at the Oscars – Yay or Nay?

I swear I’m the only person in the world who hated the dress (an Armani Prive) Cate Blanchette wore to the 2014 Oscars telecast.  I thought it was too close to her skin colour and that it would have been better on someone much darker as it would give it a better pop.  Others disagree, and have noted that Cate looked stunning.

I DO like the dress itself.  It’s just that I prefer gowns that contrast a bit more with the wearer – I would have said the same thing if, say, Lupita Nyong’o wore, say, dark chocolate (now hers was a dress to rave about – very Marilyn Monroe and the Seven Year Itch).  And Cate wasn’t the only one in flesh tone, though most of the other dresses were not as close to the wearer’s skintone as hers. It would have been better if Cate chose something that was a little more contrasting or gave a bit of a pop (though not overly bright or blinding like Jennifer Lawrence’s red piece or the sparkliness of Anne Hathaway’s gown – that one nearly blinded me!).

What are your thoughts on the dress? Which other dresses did you like and dislike?
