CBD: Custom Furniture for Spaces of All Sizes

I recently had the chance to visit a new furniture boutique, CBD Co., located on King and Jarvis in Toronto.  While there are plenty of furniture stores along the King East and Jarvis area selling pieces for smaller spaces, many seem to cater to a funky, more “hipster” crowd.  However, CBD is a bit more classic, which is perfect for people like me.  CBD specializes in custom furniture.

Storage beds are perfect for smaller spaces!

There were many beautiful pieces at the store, many of which are made by the Mennonite communities in Ontario, including storage beds (beds with drawers) and dressers.  These pieces are carved from wood, without the use of nails or glue as per Mennonite custom.  A queen sized storage bed would cost around $3500 before taxes.  Shoppers can decide on the colour as well as type of nobs or handles for the drawers.  For those of us who live in smaller spaces, storage beds dare a perfect addition to one’s condo.

Unique dresser

For those in larger homes (or even small spaces with the intent of moving to a large suburban house in the future), there are dining room tables that can be customized to sit, say, 20 people.  After all, it’s all about pulling the table out and adding additional “leaves” in the middle.  It’s not a new concept, but the fact that one can visit CBD and ask to have a table in a specific colour as well as a size.  Most furniture stores only provide specific finishes, colours and size (e.g. coffee coloured oak finishing with specific choices of, say, six, eight or 10).  Other pieces available at the store include sofas made with German leather that is treated in Italy as well as unique, one-of-a-kind items and pieces that combine both classic and modern/artistic looks (like the dresser above).

CBD is located on 81 King Street East.  Its hours are Monday to Friday from 11 am to 8 pm, Saturday 11 am to 7 pm and Sunday from noon to 6 pm.
