Chopped Canada, Season 3, Ep 15: Sun Dried Tomatoes and Beetroot Powder Pizza

The appetizer round consisted of the following ingredients: beetroot powder, pepperoni, sun dried tomatoes, and long beans.  Since this is an imaginary meal and I’m also not a contestant on Chopped, I have all the time I have.  Thus, I’m going to make pizza (actually, I’ll probably make some sort of open-faced sandwich if I had been a contestant).

Even though this is fake, I’m going to start with pre-made dough.  For a party sized, thin crust, I’d probably roll/press it out onto a cookie sheet until thin.  For the sauce, we’re going to mix beetroot powder and chopped garlic with a little bit of olive oil, oregano and black pepper and then spread it onto the dough.  This is followed by some pepperoni, chopped long beans, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms.  Top it with some fresh basil as well.  Finally, the cheese.  Then comes the cheese.  Since this is for a party, why not use mozzarella di buffala rather than fior di latte?

Most pizza sites note that pizza should be baked at a 450-500 F oven for about 15 minutes, so I’ll follow that rule.  I’m personally a big fan of appetizers and desserts style dinner parties (much to family’s dismay – to them appetizers don’t make a “real” meal), and this would be a great addition.
