Chopped Canada Season Two: What to do with Challah?

On the second episode, the mystery ingredients were as follows:

challah

If challah (or any kind of bread) is in the mystery ingredients box for dessert, DO NOT make certain items

Starter: Peanut butter cookie dough, boudin blanc (pork and liver, a kind of sausage), epazoete (minty flavoured herb) and zucchini

Main: Frozen waffles, fish heads, oyster sauce and dry woodear mushrooms

Dessert: Margarita mix, za’atar, challah, cilantro

This week, I would discuss what I’d make with items in the dessert round.  Two items I know I would NOT make:  French toast or bread pudding.  Seriously, those two are a KISS OF DEATH on Chopped/Chopped Canada (unless both remaining contestants are making them).  Judges do not want to see that.  So, out of the dessert items, I’d make quick challah and berry triffle.  First, I would cut the challah into small pieces and set it aside.  In another bowl, I’d mix a little bit of, margarita mix, heavy cream and cilantro, creating a margarita and cilantro flavoured cream.  In a third bowl, a bit of honey, za’taar and berries would be put together.  Finally, in small, individual bowls, the bread, berry mix and cream would be layered, alternatively, finally topping each off with some plain whipped cream, a bit more za’atar and pistachios – oh and a cherry on top.  I actually might try making this at my next dinner party!
