Coach’s Classics line, long available online at at many other locations across North America (including Toronto’s Yorkdale store) finally made its way to the Bloor and Avenue Road location. There was a “preview” for the line a couple of weeks ago when author and TV host/judge, Gail Simmons was in town, promoting her new book, Talking With My Mouth Full (more on that at a later date). These bags, which come in a wide range of styles, are re-issues of original designs and made with original hardware. Most of them are lighter-weight than current bags and made with a much softer leather.

I have been debating between the leather shoulder purse and the Madison satchel since seeing them online and at Yorkdale a while back. I also wanted something that wasn’t a “classic” colour – not black, camel/tan, brown or white. I eventually settled on a lime green shoulder bag. I don’t really have anything in that size and the bag can also double as a clutch (got to love removable straps), making it versatile and travel-friendly. The bag also fits one’s essentials – a decent sized wallet, keys, phone and lipstick – but can be a little tight, depending on how much you generally put in the bag. Of course, if you’re going to be using it as a second bag in a tote or shopper, then it’s okay.

What it can fit
If you want to use it as a clutch, I would not recommend it for more formal occasions unless you’re looking for something plain to offset a very elaborate outfit. It’s really something one might take, say, to drinks or brunch with friends. Also, I would recommend either the lime or the reddish-orange vermillion for the pop of colour. These bags are available at select Coach stores and online for $198 US/CDN.
