TIFF Style Hits According to The Coveteur

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) wraps up for another year this weekend, and there were definitely hits and misses when it came to what the celebs wore.  I had the chance to speak with fashion bloggers (phloggers?) Erin Kleinberg and Stephanie Mark from The Coveteur (we previously wrote about them in a post about their event at Holt Renfrew), who were at TIFF this season as fashion insiders, about the various looks they saw this year.

On favourite looks in general:

Maxi dresses were very much “in.”  Leighton Meester, for example, looked stunning in a long McQueen gown.  There was also a lot of emphasis on shoes this year.  Emily Blunt’s black Prada Mary Janes were stunning.  For the men, Ryan Gosling looked stunning in linens and studded Prada loafers, while Ewan McGregor looked hot in navy.

On the difference in looks between TIFF and the Venice Film Festival, which usually overlap:

It’s a more dramatic look over there – more focus on couture and gowns for women, while Toronto is more relaxed – a little more formal than Sundance, but in Toronto, no one’s going to look at you like you’ve committed a fashion faux pas if you show up in a nice pair of pants.   We’re casual, yet still glamorous.

On accessories:

Belts- great to show off waists!  They were seen on Leighton Meister, Kiera Knightly as well as Sarah Gadon.  Cocktail rings were also popular and clutches were seen everywhere.

Make-up:

Definitely red lips and clean eyes.

On unusual sightings:

Definitely rainbow/psychedelic Louboutins on a certain actress.  Also, a certain comedienne was seen sporting a look that could only have been seen on a 13 year old celebrating her bat mitzvah in the 1980s.

On how TIFF has changed over the years:

It’s definitely higher profile, especially these past few years and a great platform for smaller stars meet media and be.  More and more, TIFF has become not only a place to be photographed for “it” looks, but also to experiment with different fashion.

One adjective to describe TIFF:

FUN!
