Cynthia Rowley Goes Green With Longer Skirt Lengths

At Cynthia Rowley’s show Friday, green was definitely not absent.  Half of her collection for Fall/Winter 2011 had at least some elements of the colour.  In addition, many of the pieces truly had a cold weather vibe to it, as it appeared to be made from velvet from the perspective of an online viewer.  And, in keeping with the hemline trends for the season, skirts were, for the most part below the knee.  This, of course, is bad news for those who are not tall as the “in” length could look stubby.  The pant lengths, which for the most part were cropped, is also bad news. At least the pants in this collection have a slightly wider leg. Skinny has been done too much over the past few seasons.

Shape-wise, there were quite a few pieces which were completely without, looking more like tents over the models’ bodies than anything else.  While it looked okay (but not the greatest) on the runway, it would be better off belted in real life just to create a waist.  The big boxy look is much worse on most women.  The collection also had pieces that were more for the “every day” look, including a berry coloured cardigan belted with a green ribbon.

The show itself was very interesting.  Throughout the entire presentation, models wearing lingerie were minging at the back.  Many viewers were probably confused – were these models actually part of the show itself or were they getting redressed, but had to walk to the other side to get back in line?  Turns out that it was the former as they walked out with the models who walked down the runway at the end of the show.
