Infused Oils and Vinegars and Other Delicious Food Show Faves

This year was my second time at the Delicious Food Show where many food-related brands, ranging from restaurants to food trucks and brands big and exhibited their wares for the public.  I was able to taste items from many of the exhibitors, ranging from some favourite restaurants like Tabülè (they were sampling various dips and had a mini mezza platter of roasted cauliflower, falafel and tabule at $5 (this is NOT on their menu, but SHOULD BE!)) to delicious yam and kale from the Ranchos food truck and more.  My absolute favourite, however, was from Olive That!, a line of infused vinegars and olive oils.

I don’t think I’ve seen that many choices – there must have been at least a dozen vinegars and half a dozen oils.  At the event, the vinegars I sampled ranged from espresso to dark chocolate, blueberry, maple and more.  I also sampled some of the flavoured olive oils such as butter and lemon.  What’s interesting about the butter flavoured oil is that it is dairy-free and the website suggests that one use it as a butter replacement.  The buttery taste is, therefore, perfect for giving one’s roasted vegetables a bit of a kick when you don’t just want to use plain herbs and olive oil.  The dark chocolate infused balsamic vinegar is perfect for roast chicken – it’s not as weird as you might think, considering that mole sauce is often used on chicken!

Besides the food trucks and Tabülè delights, I also had a chance to sample arepa (a crunchy, corn-based flatbread) from an up-and-coming Colombian cuisine food stand called Aracataca, which had three items available for event attendees.  I decided to try Le Hipster, which consisted of kale, brie, corn, seaweed and zucchini with a sriracha mayo sauce, which was absolutely DELICIOUS.  One of the sweeter items I tried was a s’mores ice cream bar from Home of the Brave, another absolute delight.

So which was my favourite of all?  It’s very hard to pick one!  I did shop a bit and purchased two vinegars (dark chocolate) and an olive oil (butter) from Olive That! as well as some Thai cooking sauces (and gluten-free macarons, too).  Look for photos and perhaps recipes of some of my creations soon!
