Dinner in a Parking Lot at Diner en Blanc 2013

Unlike the awful weather last year, Diner en Blanc Toronto 2013 was sunny and warm. Attendees, all dressed in white, arrived in a parking lot near Queen and Church for the second annual event, some bringing their own food, while dined on delicious items provided by George Restaurant, with four meal choices, all named after trendy parts of the city (media were also provided with some nibblies, including aranchini, proscuitto on breadsticks and delicious white desserts).  Attendees were also able to pre-order wine for the event, which, like the food, were available for pick-up upon arrival.

Dress code was, once again, white-only (I was lucky enough to find white sandals this year…in kids’ sizes – the wedges I wore last year fit poorly), and there was definitely some creativity in terms of what people wore.  My favourite was the headgear worn by Janet (see one of the above photos), which reminded me of what one might see at the races.

This year’s event drew even more people than last year – approximately 1,600, according to the organizers, about 500 more than 2012.  New this year were performers, including a live Marie Antoinette statue and an aerial performer from Les Cocquettes.  A stage was also set up for musicians.  It was definitely a more fun event than last year, and we will only see improvements.  Who knows what 2014 will bring?
