I am sure many Torontonian Chinese food enthusiasts know this already, but Dynasty Chinese Cuisine, which was at the Collonade on Bloor Street for many years will be reopening in a new location very soon. The restaurant, which closed at the end of October, will be taking over the spot formerly known as True Restaurant on 69 Yorkville Avenue, which closed its doors in the summer.
The name of the former restaurant Dynasty is taking over
The new location, which will be closer to street level and more visible, will not only bring in clients which have previously not gone to Dynasty, but also give it a trendier feel. As the spot was never boarded up for major renovations, the look of the new Dynasty should be similar to that of True. If little renovation is being done to Dynasty’s new home, it would be a welcome change to the typical “authentic” Chinese restaurant, which has grown from hole-in-the-wall Chinatown eateries to boring suburban dining spots seen in Markham and Agincourt.
I hope things won’t change too much food-wise, either. As a downtown dweller, there are only a handful of good, authentic Chinese restaurants (I can actually only name three, and none of them are in “Chinatown”). The ones in Chinatown are often older, more run-down and the cuisine is a little more old-fashioned. If one wants to go anywhere else, one must drive 40 minutes to the suburbs. Not fun on a weeknight.
Dynasty Chinese Cuisine will reopen on December 18, 2010 at 69 Yorkville Avenue, which is just west of Bay Street (next to Pusateri’s). The old location is rumoured to become a bistro, opening in 2011.
