Bathroom tissue brand Cashmere held its ninth annual White Cashmere Collection: Fashion with Compassion in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation at the Arcadian Court on September 19. Featuring looks created by designers and brands such as Adrian Wu, Ashtiani by Golnaz Ashtiani and Cara Cheung, this year’s collections paid hommage to old Hollywood, with many of the gowns inspired by movies made in the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.
After introductions host Beverly Thompson of Canada AM, short speeches by Nancy Marcus and Lollita Danboy as well as the curator and artistic director of the event, Farley Chatto, audience members were treated to a brief aerial show by an artist from Hangtime Presents, a locally based company. We also were treated to a preview of Cashmere’s upcoming campaign for their Pink Cashmere Bathroom Tissue, which will be on television throughout October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Each designer was introduced with a movie poster that inspired their designs. Films represented included Sunset Boulevard, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Singin’ in the Rain and The Wizard of Oz, which featured the one and only children’s piece modelled by an adorable little redhead in a gown by Izzy Cameleri (first image) and could very well be a flower girl dress at a big cathedral wedding. The little girl’s dress was inspired by Glenna (the good witch), rather than Dorothy, interestingly enough.
In addition to the show, gowns from previous years were placed both at the eighth floor lobby and upstairs at the Arcadian Court’s mezzanine, where a post-event cocktail reception was held. Previous designers included Paris Li, Jason Matlo as well as bigger names like Sunny Fong and Greta Constantine. Right now, the public can vote for their favourite 2012 designs on Facebook for a chance to one of four $2,500 shopping sprees. For each vote, Cashmere will donate $1 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
