Shopping and Showing The Best of WMCFW at Fashion Saturday

The first Fashion Saturday was held at the tents at David Pecaut Square on October 26.  Featuring highlights of the best looks presented at World MasterCard Fashion Week, divided into three shows (casual pieces, officewear and evening/cocktai) in three sessions, there was also an opportunity for attendees to shop various Canadian designers.  A handful of designers who presented during Fashion Week had booths, as did several who did not present, including a DelectablyChic! favourite, Rachel Sin and Malika (Calgary).

Fashion Saturday was a great way for those who were unable to attend Fashion Week to see the best of what the designers are offering next season.  The three sessions also provided flexibility for attendees, as they had a choice of early afternoon (with 1, 2 and 3 PM shows), late afternoon (4, 5 and 6 PM shows)  or evening (shows starting at 7 PM).  And of course, there was the shopping in the pop-up booth mentioned earlier.  It would have been nice, however, if more designers participated in the pop-up shop, especially those that did not show during the week.  It would have been a great opportunity for them to show to the public, who may be interested in fashion, but just don’t have the time to attend several shows during the week.  I would have loved to see Monica Mei’s line, AIME at the pop-up boutique, rather than only the press and buyers’ brunch (more on that another time) – she had quite a few interesting looks for the upcoming collection!

In all, I think Fashion Saturday was successful and hope that they would hold it again in March, when the Fall collections are presented.
