Small Space and Other Favourites from IDS 2016

The Interior Design Show, 2016 edition was this past weekend at the Metro Convention Centre.  As usual, there were many exhibitors targeting small spaces.  Some of our top picks are:

Porter & Charles (via Euro-Line Appliances):

Porter and Charles Kitchen

Seriously, these kitchens are THE BEST!  Considering more and more people are purchasing tiny, 400-500 square foot condos, yet still want everything, these compacts are probably ideal.  At IDS, they were showing super-compact systems, complete with “hidden” compartments, including a dining table/prep station.  However, the downside of what they showed was that there were only cooking elements.  In addition, the oven was a bit on the smaller side (24″ opposed to a more “standard” 36″), so hosting that Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner is probably out of the question – unless, of course, you do a potluck.  The washing machine seen in the above system is combined with a dryer.  This is fairly common in Europe.

DXV:

Compact Dual Vanity

Part of the Lyndon collection, this dual sink is ideal for a couple living in a small space.  No need to worry about who is hogging the sink!  If you have an even smaller space or are looking to add a powder in an older home, there’s the Seagram collection, which will literally fit into a closet. I really like the “compact-ness” of these bathrooms, and would definitely consider these if I lived in a tiny space.  The pieces are also very modern-looking – perhaps a bit too much.  One worry I have is they may look dated in just a few years.

Nero Fire Design:

Water Vapour Fireplace

I’ve heard of “traditional” wood-burning fire places, gas and electric.  But never in my life have I seen one using water vapour.  You don’t even need a water hook-up.  All you need is to fill a bottle of water and turn the fireplace on.  The “fire” is from the steam and the colour is created using electricity.  This is great if you wish to have a fireplace yet want a very child-proof home.
