Creative Elegance and Sophistication at Fendi

Cynthia Cheng Mintz

Courtesy of Style.com, this video shows highlights and commentary from the Fendi show at Milan Fashion Week.  Based on what we’re seeing in the video, there’s a lot of colour, translucent sleeves (with gold bits!) as well as colourful prints on leather.  Unlike many of the other shows so far this year, this collection seems to have less of a 1970s influence.  As expected, Fendi’s collection is also fairly sophisticated.  With lady-like skirts, flowing fabrics and blouses with a little ruffle, many of the looks definitely has a little bit of a socialite museum curator vibe to it.

The socialite curator is not the only character at play in this collection.  In the above video highlights, there was even a dress that was referred to as “governess at a girls’ school” long, black and plain.  True- it does have a bit of a Miss Minchin (A Little Princess) vibe to it, but Miss Minchin wouldn’t be nearly as fashionable, not even in a repressed way.

What we liked:

  • Colours
  • Being creative with the furs and accessories
  • Elegant, sophisticated vibe

What we didn’t like that much:

  • Ruffles (can we say clown?)
  • Some of the coats – they create a bulky look that won’t work on many body types
