Fly to Paradise with LOVAS Spring/Summer 2012

For Spring/Summer 2012, Wesley Badanjak’s LOVAS has a more fun, light-weight collection compared to “Sisters” for Fall/Winter 2011.  Influenced by his travels in the tropics, the collection was called “Birds of Paradise.”  And birds the models were.  In fact, there were some looks with large feather headdresses, something that could easily have been taken the wrong way if the theme was not known.  As usual, there was a diverse range of looks, from day dresses and skirts to jackets as well as pants and gowns that hinted a bit of an island vibe, especially some of the colours, which included creams and corals.  Surprisingly, the inclusion of black did not deter the warm, lazy-living feel.

These collection is definitely very wearable by most women and work well for a wide range of occasions.  One of my favourite work-appropriate looks was a cream coloured blazer that was paired with a black top and a skirt with white, black and orange tones. Another piece I liked was a sleeveless, plaid dress with hints of different shades of corals, pinks and oranges as well as a tiny bit of teal. I’m not normally a fan of sleeveless – they’re often a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen, but this one is different and definitely worth at least a try once it’s made available to the consumer.   I also liked the two gowns presented – they would work very well for many formal occasions and the black dress is seasonless. There were some misses though.  For example, a white dress (big hit last summer as an alternative to the black dress) would have been a perfect had there not been a big bow.  That look barely worked on the model, let alone on women who’re not tall and slim.  We don’t want to draw attention to “problem areas” or be made to look like little girls, after all.

This collection definitely made me yearn for warmer weather.  Hopefully, winter would end quickly so I can wear these clothes!
