Fort Lauderdale, Florida celebrates its centennial in 2011. While people tend to think of beaches and the sun when it comes to visiting Florida, the city boasts over 4,000 restaurants as well as 120 night clubs such as the ones listed below:
Seasons 52: This is actually a chain. The Fort Lauderdale location is at the Galleria mall (but with an outside entrance), the restaurant not only its frequently changing menu (they change four times a year, in time with the seasons), but also healthier, lighter fare. With a calorie count of 453 or less, portions are fairly reasonable (especially compared with US-based chain restaurants). Be sure to order their flatbread appetizers (choices include garlic chicken and spicy chipoltle shrimp). Desserts, including cakes and pies, are served in shot glasses, just right for those who don’t want to have much.
H20 Cafe: Looking for a good breakfast along Sunrise Boulevard? The South Beach omelette is highly recommended. Dairy free, potato free and made only with egg whites, this veggie omelette is definitely the choice if you want something light. The restaurant also has more traditional fare, including an egg dish which includes bacon as well as sausages. H20 also has a take-out cafe, but I would opt for the sitdown restaurant unless you are only going for some coffee.
Blue Moon Fish Company: When you are in a city known for water (Fort Lauderdale is sometimes called the Venice of America, due to its canal system), you have to have seafood. I highly recommend some sort of seabass as it literally MELTS in your mouth!
Casablanca Cafe: This piano bar and restaurant a definite must-go, just for the ambiance. Tables are pretty small, especially if you opt for veranda seating, but dining outside in the winter, with the cool evening breeze blowing is an absolute delight. It’s probably even prettier in the spring when the sun sets later.
