Frocktail Party 2011: Annual Dress Auction for JDRF Packs the House

This year’s Frocktail Party was, like the previous years, absolutely fabulous.  Back at the Burroughs Building, which was host to the first event back in 2009, the annual fundraiser in support of the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) offered not only the auctioning of dresses, but also complimentary manicures and of course, delicious hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music.

The gorgeous dresses that were on the auction block this year included donations from many designers and boutiques.  In addition to women’s dresses, a few suits for men as well as lingerie and accessories, including bags and jewellery were also on the list.  Some of the pieces were custom-made by designers for the likes of Lisa Tant (editor-in-chief of Flare) and Cheryl Hickey (host of ET Canada). Some favourites include a gorgeous one sleeved Christian Siriano dress and a blue one from House of Spy.

As with the past two years, the event was spaced out in two different rooms, one with a bar and pampering and the other, the silent auction. The dresses were also available in a small range of sizes – mostly in small and medium sizes (in the 4-8 range).  This means that those who are extra small-framed or larger than an 8 did not have as much to choose from, should they be bidding for themselves.  Most of the attendees, however probably fit into the 4-8 range.  There were quite a few attendees this year, making mingling a little bit difficult, even as early as 9 pm.  Perhaps the Frocktail Party has out-grown the Burroughs Building venue?   The event was, nonetheless, a lot of fun.  Looking forward to 2012!
