Full Skirts and the Petite

I recently purchased two full skirts, one from Femme de Carriere, a Montreal-based clothing store with office-friendly clothing (both casual and formal) and another from a Kate Spade outlet in Niagara Falls, New York.  Some people think that  these skirts can overwhelm a petite frame, but it really depends on the style (e.g. how much it flares out or length).  Since I was kind of tired of my pencil skirt collection, I decided to try the skirt on late last month.  I tried the Femme de Carriere skirt on at the store and instantly fell in love with it.  It was a little bit big at the waist (it did not come in an extra small – some Femme de Carriere items come in XS, while others do not. Kind of inconsistent if you ask me), but belting does help as seen below:

Top: Jacob
Skirt: Femme de Carriere
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Prorata, size 34
Glasses: Pucci
Belt: BCBG (from came with another dress)

While the belt above probably isn’t the best, it does help a little as wearing it without the belt looks a bit loose.  On the other hand, the Kate Spade skirt DID come with a belt.  Belts that come with outfits often don’t work very well on me, since they are usually a bit too big, but I was happy to discover that there were holes left over on the belt (one or two, depending on how much I’ve eaten) for this size zero skirt.  I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it  – so many colours!  This skirt has a matching bag (or two – I recently saw a woman on Bloor Street carrying a tote in this exact pattern) and apparently shoes, as well.  This skirt is, as you can see, a bit slimmer than the Femme de Carriere, perhaps more A-line than flare/circle.  While it’s a bit longer than what most petites tend to wear (as is the one above), I think it works well with high heels on people with my kind of frame.

Top: Jacob, as above
Skirt: Kate Spade
Shoes: The Odd Slipper Annabel – size 4.5 (sold out)

What do you think? Do you wear skirts like this? Which one do you like more? Does it work on you?
