The Future Possibilities for Kids (FPK) Annual Fundraiser Event is truly like no other. From the original event title – “Travelling Midway of Curiosities and Delights” – to the uber casual and truly welcoming ambience – to the array of fun activities to do including taro card reading, caricature art, handwriting analysis, body art, flea market shopping and live auction – it’s clear this smorgasbord of whimsicality has its heart in one thing and one thing only: to help kids in need know their future too is full of possibility.
Held at the second floor of Andrew Richard Designs, an upscale furniture store near the Distillery District, Travelling Midway of Curiosities and Delights had sizeable space to mingle, shop at the flea market, indulge in cocktail sandwiches and finger food, as well as enjoy the various activities on the patio. Musical entertainment was provided by Julian Fauth (Juno Award winning pianist and winner of 2011 Maple Blues Keyboard Player of the Year), Jake Koffman (Up and coming saxophone player and grandson of the famous Moe Koffman) and Aaron Solomon (World class fiddle, guitar and mandolin player). As it was one of the most humid days of the year, guests had put a very summery spin on the vintage theme.
The activities kept everyone quite busy as word of mouth soon spread on just how accurate the renowned Elaine Chara was at analyzing handwriting and many were curious what tarot card reader Tara Greene would see in their future. Little Miss Henna’s caricatures were quite flattering and her body art added a fun and ageless feel to the event.
The highlight of the night was without a doubt the very successful live auction. Organizers had received 2.5 million Aeroplan miles and had arranged them into very tempting trip packages that truly got the crowd excited and raised enormous sums for this very worthy cause.
There were also some very beautiful speeches. Geri Berholz, in particular, who co-founded FPK with her husband Harry in 2001, brought tears to many of our eyes were her heartfelt speech about how FPK is not just a charity but a way of life. She and team refer to followers as “possibility people” and it’s clear that while KidCoaches are truly helping children with their hands on dedication, they themselves are having their lives changed from the interaction and culture of being with these children through FPK. Even the short video shown on the work FPK does was very well made and at times witty and at other times simply touching.
Lianne Picot, Executive Director of FPK, stated in an exclusive to DelectablyChic!, “I’m delighted with the support that has been shown us by our friends, corporate supporters and people wanting to get involved with the organization. It was a fun night with a lot of money raised.”
A fabulous opportunity to reconnect with friends as well as meet other people committed to supporting community activities, Travelling Midway of Curiosities and Delights was a flight that truly zoomed by.
