Going Gaga Over Gluten-Free Cookies

Right after World MasterCard Fashion Week ended, I made my way to the Delicious Food Show, an event featuring many of Canada’s best in delectable delights.  There were many familiar brands, including many of Toronto’s most well-known food trucks and trendy eateries, but there were also some up-and-coming and independent labels.  One of these was Gaga for Gluten-Free, a brand of bite sized cookies now available in many stores across Ontario, Quebec and some eastern Canadian provinces.

Like most gluten-free snacks, these cookies are made with rice flour and are available in three flavours:  shortbread, chocolate and good ol’ chocolate chip.  The cookies are just a bit bigger than bite-sized and are, according to the package, around 140 calories per THREE cookies.  They’re not bad tasting – even coming from a girl who prefers her cookies chewy – and crumb easily (i.e. can be messy).  But they’re not like the hard, crunchy cookies that many grocery stores carry in the pre-packaged cookie aisle, either.

I’ve only had two flavours so far, so I can’t really declare a “winner” out of the three.  However, I really like the double chocolate cookie – it’s great paired with ice cream!  I wish that there were more options, however.  Maybe in the near future, we’d see sugar cookies and perhaps something with dried fruit?
