There several dresses which stood out this year at the Golden Globes, such as Nicole Kidman’s Prada gown (I am sure that many brides-to-be interested in sleekier looking dresses would look at Nicole’s gown as an inspiration for their wedding gown) as well Helena Bonham Carter’s Vivienne Westwood number (well, it was stunning on Helena. I’m not sure it would work on anyone else!). Others that looked great included Claire Danes’ simple coral number as well as Megan Fox’s pink dress (and I normally don’t even like her). However, there seemed to be many more that were complete misses. Actually, some were nasty.
Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway and Leighton Meister all wore long sleeved dresses. All three of them could have done better, especially Angelina. The colour of her gown was pretty, but the sparkliness just did not work. In fact, she kind of looked like a Christmas tree! Not only that, it aged her significantly. Angelina is 35 years old. The dress made her look like she was well into her 40s. Best actress winner, Natalie Portman COULD have had a very stunning dress if it weren’t for the huge rose right in the middle of the gown. Natalie is not a big girl. She’s 5’3″ or 5’4″ tall and fairly slim. Big floral numbers do not work on petite women like her. While a plain pink gown would have been too boring, perhaps a smaller embellishment, something at least half the size of what she had on.
I’m seriously hoping that the Oscars would have much better-looking dresses, but we’ll have to wait another six weeks to see that.
