Finding Grown-Up Pieces at ASOS Petites

I was recently contacted by the US rep of British-based online shop, ASOS to review some (complimentary) pieces from their petite exclusive collection.  I have known about ASOS for years – it was introduced to me by the original founder of Petite Fashionista, Christa Jean (she no longer maintains the site and has passed it to someone else) back in 2007, but I have not shopped there in a few years.  In fact, I have had trouble finding pieces because many of the looks seem to target much younger women – girls between 15 and 23, not someone in her 30s.  I did accept the review offer, though it took me a while to find pieces that might work for someone in her 30s.

ASOS PETITE Exclusive Midi Dress in Contrast Fabric:

I have to say that I like this one!  It’s a little bit casual without the blazer and a bit loose/big without the belt, but once those two pieces are paired, it’s a great look for work (if the office isn’t too formal).  The green skirt also gives it a bit more colour.  I also like the length very much.  The dress actually looks too short on the model – it’s supposed to be a midi, which should be BELOW the knee.  The dress also comes in a grey and coral combo, but that one, based on the photo, anyway, looks a little less work-appropriate.

Petite EXCLUSIVE Hearts and Clubs Pants:

NO!  Just NO!   The pattern’s cute, but the pants just look awful on me (I hesitated posting this picture, in fact.  However, I felt that I had to show it to my readers just to let them know how awful it looks).  Maybe it’s the size, or perhaps it’s the way it is cut, but I think it looks rather sloppy and too young.  Should I just downsize or forget about it?

ASOS PETITE Exclusive Jacket With Ribbon Embellishment:

They say that on shouldn’t wear items that they could remember seeing the first time around.  Since I remember the late 80s/early 90s and was probably old enough to have something similar, I really should not have asked ASOS to send me this one! However, I’m glad I did.  I like the colours and the fact that it’s shorter than a “professional” or “classic”-looking jacket and I have to admit that it’s a great casual piece. It isn’t like anything I have in my closet and I think it’s a welcome addition.

Note: As indicated above, the clothes were complimentary, so the author would like to thank ASOS for sending them!
