H&M, hardly the first non-high end brand to present at any Fashion Week, made its Parisian debut recently with the Fall 2013 collection at the historical Musée Rodin. Celebrities including Emma Roberts and Ashley Olsen, joined stylists, editors and musicians as models weaved in and out of the museum’s rooms in what looked like a collection dominated by black, cream and camel. While the pieces certainly lived up to H&M’s philosophy of fast fashion and being current, the lack of colour in the video as this blogger wondering where the “pop” went.
While the pieces certainly interesting, such as the fringy pants seen around the 1:25 mark, I question the editing of the video (and the stylists). H&M tends to have a decent selection of colourful pieces, so where were they, other than the small glimpse of a little red dress seen throughout the presentation (that said, where were all the guys’ pieces?). If the stylists and other organizers were going for a clean slate approach, where the audience was supposed to concentrate on the clothing, they still haven’t done their job. While some pieces definitely stick out in terms of design, they certainly aren’t too memorable nor was the Musée Rodin the best fit for the show. A collection needs to be able to stick out to the audience, and a brighter, more modern and minimalist venue would have been more ideal.
What are your thoughts on the collection (or, at least what was seen on the video)? Will you be rushing to H&M later this year when these pieces arrive?
