Luxury department store Holt Renfrew launched the Fall/Winter 2012 collections with a show called “Can’t Live without Canadian Fashion” featuring well-known names such as Pink Tartan (who will be showing tomorrow), Lida Baday and Greta Constantine. Not all of the designers in the Holt Renfrew show are showing this week (in fact, Pink Tartan is the only one who presented tonight that is taking part at LG. Greta Constantine, for example, presented last week), it gave attendees the opportunity to sample and highlight what Canadian designers Holt Renfrew has to offer.
A variety of different styles were seen, each unique to its designer. Some style writers may prefer funkier and edgier looks, but we like simplicity. One of our favourite pieces was a Lida Baday pencil dress which was paired with a (seen above on the model on the far left). While the length (hitting a few inches below the knee on the model, which means it would be almost mid-calf on average heighted women (a BIG NO NO for anyone under 5’8″ and an even BIGGER NO-NO for those 5’4″ and below)) of the actual dress may not work for all heights, the shape of the garment elongates. Thus, it makes the wearer look slimmer, especially if it was cut at an apporpriate length (just below the knee for most people).
All in all, there were not too many “funkier” looks (except maybe a furry/fuzzy Pink Tartan skirt or two). This is Holt Renfrew, after all, and the typical customer there has more of an interest in sleaker, sophisticated pieces rather than something that is edgier. There are definitely many pieces that are worth purchasing in the fall.
