When I found out about Sindy Sagastume’s The Odd Slipper, a company that specializes in shoes for small feet (starts at size 3, ladies!), I knew I wanted to try it out. Being a size 4 1/2 or size 5, I have a hard time finding shoes at regular stores. In fact, it’s become a point that I won’t even bother shopping at brick and mortar stores unless I am sure that they carry size 5 or smaller. I don’t like being embarrassed or disappointed as I have been many times. I had been hesitant to buy online, however, since all small shoe companies I’ve come across are not in Canada and therefore cost an arm and a leg to send in. However, The Odd Slipper, especially the pair of hot pink pumps called Annabel was too hard to resist. I think I bought the last pair of size 4.5.
Annabel from The Odd Slipper
The shoes came within two weeks of ordering. At $124 US plus $12.50 for shipping, it isn’t too bad and more affordable – even after shipping costs – than many of my regular shoe purchases from brands like Cole Haan or Stuart Weitzman. For some reason, this time, there weren’t any extra charges for cross-border shipping, but I have a feeling that it is a hit and miss situation. The fit was very good (though I think it might be slightly too wide) and my feet did not slip out when walking. I was a little worried that the 4 1/2 would be a bit too big (I’ve been as small as a 4 before), but I think had I gone down half a size, my feet would be half dead within seconds. The shoe is about four inches high with a one inch hidden platform, so I’m standing at around 5’6″ in these shoes! I haven’t taken Annabel out yet, but I have a couple of events coming up and am considering taking her out for a spin. I’ll do a follow-up post sometime over the next couple of months to let you know how they feel on my feet after wearing them for a couple of hours or more. So far, it’s very good. I am definitely going consider more shoes from this company, perhaps ones that are lower-heeled so I can wear them more frequently. One thing I’d like to see The Odd Slipper sell more of are colourful shoes like Annabel. Perhaps that will be the case as we approach the warmer months. I’d also like to see a sandal wedge (green or orange, please?).
Annabel, up close!
Launched in 2011, The Odd Slipper is very unique not only because they exclusively cater to women with very small feet, but also for its voting system. Shoe designs are presented online and registered members of the site can vote on the design. The more votes a design gets, the more likely it will be produced and sold. Generally, the smallest size available is a US women’s 3 and most styles go up to size 5 1/2 or 6. Most of the styles are more classic than trendy, but you never know what is coming next! Prices range from the mid 30s up to the 150s. Shipping is free in the US, $12 flat for Canada and anywhere between $14 and $18 for other countries.
