IDS, also known as the Interior Design Show, is back for another year, opening to the public on Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. One of the many vendors at the event will be New Mexico-based Stone Forest, known for their artistic looking kitchen and bathroom sinks, bathtubs and other related accessories. I had the chance to speak with the company’s director, Tim Fremgen, to further discuss the products which will be on display at IDS.
Perhaps the most eye-catching product is the off-axis oval bathtub, known as the Pappilon. Available in several different types of material, including black granite, limetone and rosalia marble, visitors to this year’s IDS will get the chance at seeing the sandstone version. The look is definitely very modern and minimalist and would definitely give some character to a master bathroom both in large, older homes or newer ones. Of course, it is quite large, so it would unlikely work in tiny, modern condo units. Another look to enhance one’s bathroom might be the use of a pedestal. The “industrial” pedestal is available for sinks as well as toilet paper holders or other “accessories.” It’s a perfect compliment for those living in a loft or contrast for a more modern space. For those who are looking to renovate their kitchens, a popular item with clients, according to Tim, are the farmhouse sinks. At IDS will be the Wavefront sink, which is carved from solid blocks of either honed basalt or Carrara marble. It’s definitely a statement piece!

The looks from Stone Forest are not basic. Every single piece is artistic, unique and caters to those who are looking for something that is more on trend. However, they’re also not too over-the-top, but rather a bit more elegant. So what are the current trends, according to Tim? “Many people are looking for vessels right now, but wall-hung, clean-line designs are also popular. Inclusive storage is also in demand.”
Stone Forest will be at booth number 1818 at this year’s IDS. General admission, which is from 10 am to 7 pm on January 24 and 25, is $19 online and $22 at the door. Separate seminars are also going to be held at IDS with tickets at $40 each (includes admission to the show).
