The 13th annual Interior Design Show kicked off yesterday with an opening party at the Metro Convention Centre on Front Street. Called “All You Need is Love”, the event featured previews of exhibits which will open to the public on January 29.  One of such exhibits is called Sibling Revelry, which features works by designer-siblings like the Dixons (David and Glenn), Richardsons (Sarah and Theo) as well as the Dresslers (Jason and Lars).  As with any gala, there was also an auction where guests put their bid on retooled iconic Vitra Panton chairs created by Greta Constantine and Johnson Chou.  Proceeds from this auction go to Casey House, a specialty hospital which offers programming and services for people living with HIV/AIDS.

There were plenty of delicious hors d’oeuvres from a variety of Toronto eateries and catering services, including Oliver and Bonacini, All the Best Catering and La Bruschetta.  Nibblies included cream filled mini croissants, panini as well as wild boar meatballs on half buns.  Also of note at the party was the Canadian launch of the Audi A7 Sportback, a gorgeous five-door sports coupe that was first announced in July 2010.  In addition, there was a flash mob, where people started randomly dancing right by one of the lounges.

The International Design Show continues today with a Professional Trades Day and will open to the public on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29.  Booths and exhibits to pay special attention to include Kevin Wiggers Furniture Design (he has a very neat flipable TV cabinet) and Metropolis Living, which sells unique, industrial-inspired furniture and decor.  Tickets are $15.
