Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to preview pieces available at Vaughan’s newest shopping experience, That’s Italy Fashion District (aka That’s Italy). However, instead of going up to the store itself, select pieces from the store were brought to the Church Apprevio Bar on Queen and Dovercourt. And despite being called a “preview,” in reality, the store had its grand opening the day before.
Photos from the preview
While nibbling on delicious goodies such as mini arancini, polenta fries and marinara sauce as well as sliders, media were able to see some select pieces featured at That’s Italy, including ones from designers and brands like Laura Biagiotti, LIST, Fugato and Jeckerson. In total, the store has 40 different labels, all selected by its fashion director, Lino Grasso. Only the best pieces were sent downtown for us to see. Personally, I had my eyes on a pale pink dress as well as an orange coloured leather bag that was not only the right size, but also very light. According to the press release, at least 85 % of the production and assembly occurs in Italy. Price points range anywhere between the mid-100s up to four figures.
Some photos of the store
The store itself, at 14,000 square feet, has an interesting concept, allowing shoppers to feel like they’re wandering on a street in Italy. Each designer has its own “boutique” section, separated by shelving or curtains. There are also changing spaces within the “boutiques.” And best of all, That’s Italy not only provides alterations services, but also a delicious café. However, without actually visiting the store, I can’t really say if it truly feels like one is in the old world, since the indoor space is much more modern industrial-looking with its white walls, curtains, shelving and ceiling than something that is more historical. I will definitely need to make a trip up to the 905 to see for myself!
That’s Italy is located on 3590 Rutherford Road, Unit 12 in Vaughan. Hours are Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 9 PM and 10 AM to 5 PM on Sundays.
