Shouldn’t Petite Sizes Cost Less? J.Crew Adds $10 for the Same Skirt

***UPDATE: J.Crew emailed back to say that both skirts should be $108. Correction pending***

Not sure if this is a mistake J.Crew made but one of their latest arrivals, the ripple stripe pencil skirt costs $10 more if one purchases the petite (5’4″ or shorter) version (see screenshot below).  Are they trying to rip off the petite buyer?  Petite sizes at J.Crew have never cost more than their regular sizes (though it should cost less, since petite sizes are made for women who’re shorter and therefore uses less material compared with the same size in regulars).  Higher prices, usually $10 to $20 more is usually reserved for tall sizes.  This isn’t fair as petite women like buying petite sizes because of its better fit.  Alterations don’t always work due to proportions and because some things just can’t be altered without it looking off.  And petite women don’t want to pay MORE for the same item.

Let’s hope that this was a mistake that will be corrected soon.  DelectablyChic! won’t be too surprised if other media don’t pick this issue up, as petite-related body image discussions aren’t often considered “true body image issues.”  We will, however, keep readers posted about any updates.  So far, J.Crew has written back only to say that they’re “looking into” the situation.
