An Evening with J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons and Somsack Sikhounmuong

Earlier this week, I had the chance to go to an event at the J.Crew store in Toronto’s Yorkville area. The RSVP-only event was billed as an evening with J.Crew head Jenna Lyons, but also in attendance was women’s wear designer, Somsack Sikhounmuong, who I learned last night is from Oshawa.  The event was very well-attended (hey, when it’s billed that Jenna is going to be there, who WOULDN’T say yes?)  and featured not only discounted shopping (every guest received a $50 gift card in addition to 25% off their purchase, which I used for a hat and “glittens”) but cocktails and appetizers as well as a photo booth.  There was also a short Q&A session with Jenna and Somsack where questions ranged from items everyone “should” have in their closet to the state of petite sizes at J.Crew (yes, that came from me and yes, it’ll expand).

It was a fun event, even though it was a bit crowded for me (which I can understand.  I mean, JENNA was there, right?).  I would have liked it if there were a few more appetizers as well.  While I wasn’t expecting a full charcuterie or cheese table and full bar, it would have been nice to see a few more bites – or at least on rotation a bit more frequently!

I didn’t end up speaking with Jenna or Somsack – I think I would have been too nervous to do so!  However, I am glad Jenna answered my question and I hope that it is true.  Funny that the Bloor Street store doesn’t have petites, but Yorkdale and Eaton Centre do.  Oh well, maybe soon.  🙂
