Kate Hudson’s Capsule Collection for Ann Taylor

Celebrities are always collaborating with retailers or designers, creating capsule collections and Kate Hudson is no exception.  Launched just yesterday, her white and rose gold collection for Ann Taylor features summer-ready dresses, skirts, tops as well as accessories.  The collection was officially launched online in Wednesday morning and at Ann Taylor stores later in the afternoon.  I stopped by the event at the Toronto Eaton Centre.  It wasn’t so much an “event” where there was a DJ, appetizers, etc, but just a launch.  When I arrived, they were still setting up and I was told that there was only one of each size.  It was THAT limited.

The collection isn’t too bad, aesthetically speaking, and the Constellation dress is perhaps my favourite.  And because all the pieces are solid white, accessories and pairings are necessary – unless you are attending an all-white party like Diner en Blanc, of course.  Another miss about this collection is the lack of petite sizing.  Because Kate is not petite (she is 5’6″ according to IMDB), it probably never occurred to her that people may be looking for petite sizing (this happened with the first Banana Republic/Mad Men collection as well.  All subsequent collections had petites, however).  Why corporate didn’t bother adding it in is, however, beyond me.  It’s something that they should have thought about.  Unless they did, but Kate vetoed it (bad idea!).

What are your thoughts on Kate Hudson’s collaboration?  Will you purchase any of the pieces?
