Krane Spring/Summer 2012: Hipstery Suspenders and Manpris

I don’t normally write about menswear, but the Krane show this evening was quite interesting.  Taking place in the studio space, the audience sat on one side, while panels were placed on the other.  A very different set-up.  The choreography for the show was also quite different from what one might experience at a studio presentation (or the runway, I might add).  The first segment consisted of models walking down the runway, pausing, and then walking back to pose in front of a panel.  In the second segment, models walked down with bags and hung them on another panel to display (some went behind the panel to pick up or.  Later, models would pick up the bags as they walked back up the runway.

The styles were very typical of a Krane collection – very hipsterish and follows the brand’s tradition of mixing uniform-inspired styles with “industrial design.”  The Spring/Summer 2012 collection features looks where long sleeved shirts are paired with shorts, “manpris” (cropped pants for men) paired with short sleeved button downs as well as what looks like gigantic suspenders (worn in reverse) or belts.  Colours were very neutral, consisting mostly of blacks, browns, whites and greys.  The bags were of the same palette as well, and ranged from duffels and backpacks to briefcases/laptop bags.

Though the show was presented as if the line targeted very unique men, there are pieces in the collection, besides the bags, which would appeal to the vast majority of guys.  Many men have started to wear manpris (though most don’t know HOW to wear it), and of course, shorts and buttondowns are staples in any man’s closet.  It’s just a matter of looking and trying to find what works best.
