Yorkville: Lacoste Out, Kate Spade In

I’m sure many of you know by now that Lacoste basically moved out of Yorkville overnight, much like French Connection did a few weeks prior.  Rumour has it that something will be taking over the spot very soon and it’s apparently not a Coach or Prada expansion, but a “luxury brand,” according to Retail Insider.  Who knows if it’s a “first to market” or a second spot that originally opened or will open at Yorkdale (Ferragamo?).  At the same time, the old Hugo Boss spot over on Cumberland has posters up – Kate Spade, which already has a store in Yorkdale, will be opening its second Toronto location downtown, this time, a flagship spot.  This is something I am extremely excited about as a downtown girl.  No need to take a 30-35 minute subway ride up!

As for other new places, Prairie Girl Bakery will be opening its new Yorkville location on Friday, April 26, according to their Facebook post, the cupcake shop’s third location. Zaza Espresso Bar quietly closed their larger, lower level spot, and in its place is a piano bar called Salutè Piano Bar, which is slated to open this summer.  This sounds like a more “grown-up” sort of hangout which will hopefully have good wines, cocktails and music that won’t hurt one’s ears!
